Welcome to Summer 2013!

Welcome to the Summer 2013 edition of our events blog! Here you’ll find things to do ranging from old favorites to activities a bit off the beaten path. This summer looks to be a busy one and Newport’s vibrant local community is already geared up to greet all of our visitors from near and far. Whether you’re coming from just across the bridge, or across the world, we’re hoping you have an excellent time exploring all that Newport has to offer. To kick off the summer, we’ll be highlighting events from June 15th to July 15th. We hope you’re as excited as we are and we’ll see you soon!

The music fan’s ears will certainly find something to delight in this month! The Newport Yachting Center will be hosting a Sunset Music Series. Highlights in the coming weeks include Willie Nelson & Family, The B-52’s and B.B. King. See their website here for show dates, ticket prices and more! The Newport Music Festival is looking forward to kicking off it’s 45th season of bringing classical music to our historic mansions. Looking for something a bit more casual? Greenvale Vineyards out in Portsmouth will be hosting their summer jazz series every Saturday afternoon. Be sure to stop by and enjoy some wonderful music, wine, and vistas and check out their website for more information. Also, Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown will be starting their Tuesday Evening Supper Concerts on July 9th. Enjoy a picnic and some bluegrass in at a charming local farm. More of Newport’s music events including the infamous folk festival will be occurring later in July and August so be sure to keep your eyes and ears open!

Looking to get active? Father’s day weekend has two events sure get your heart pumping! On Saturday June 15th, the Norman Bird Sanctuary is hosting their 7th annual 5k, voted best 5k by RI Monthly. Bike Newport is sponsoring the inaugural Father’s Day ride in memory of Elliot Kaminitz devoted father and bike enthusiast who passed away after a bike accident last summer. Proceeds will benefit Bike Newport which is putting tremendous effort into making your favorite destination for cyclists and motorists alike! Information on all their great events can be found here.

The premier event of the early summer is surely the Newport Flower Show running June 21st -23rd . Come enjoy this year’s theme of Jade: Eastern Obsessions at Rosecliff. Tickets are available online for only $18 per person. Be sure not to miss the opening night cocktail party and enjoy this beautiful mansion as it was meant to be enjoyed. The season of fireworks and cook outs is upon us and believe it or not, July 4th is just around the corner! Why not celebrate the fourth at the oldest Independence Day parade in the country, in Bristol, RI, just up the road from sunny Newport. The Preservation Society of Newport County

will be offering five different venues this year. Returning from last year is the guest favorite, the Newport Mansions Three Mansion Passport. New for 2010, the Preservation is offering, to participating NIBBS members’ guests, the Premium Tour, the Newport Flower Show(6/24-26), the Newport Five Mansion Experience, and the Newport Mansions Wine and Food Festival(9/23-25). Check participating member Inns and B&Bs for special packages that include these attractions.

The Newport Restoration Foundation

presents Rough Point, the oceanfront home of Doris Duke; collector, philanthropist, world traveler. Tour her home as a welcome guest, and experience the life of the 20th Century Heiress. Located on Newport’s exclusive Bellevue Avenue at 680. On display now, Dressed to Play: the Sporty Style of Doris Duke. To reserve a tour, contact your NIBBS participating member inn.

The International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum

Discover the history of tennis, and the fascinating stories of its legendary stars. Experience the interactive museum, play on grass courts, and enjoy the stately architecture of this National Historic Landmark. NIBBS will be offering several event packages and tickets, which will be available to guests through our participating member inns and B&Bs for the following events: Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships (7/4-7/10), Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, as well as other events. Tour tickets and vouchers can be purchased daily from your innkeeper.


Newport Vineyards

Newport Vineyards is the largest grower of wine grapes in New England and is recognized as a landmark attraction in Newport County and continues the tradition of growing quality wines on preserved farmland.


Sight Sailing

NIBBS will be offering, to guests of participating member inns, sailing vouchers for Sight Sailing’s day and sunset cruises. Whether it’s one of their relaxing daily sailing cruises in Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay, a private charter with friends or a corporate outing, Sightsailing has the boats and staff to make it happen. Each of their boats offers a different sailing experience.
