The Newport Folk Festival, founded by George Wein in 1959, takes place on the grounds at Fort Adams State Park and features four stages of world class musicians, food, vendors and a number of exhibits. Fort Adams is located at One of the park system’s national treasures, Fort Adams is situated at the mouth of Newport Harbor with panoramic views of the Newport Bridge and the East Passage. The festival runs rain or shine.

Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, Newport Folk will be doing things a little differently this year. We’ll be extending our dates to present two unique 3-day events of surprise performances, storytelling, and workshops at Fort Adams.

NEWPORT JAZZ FESTIVAL

On the tour you will see and hear about Rose Island Lighthouse, Goat Island Lighthouse, Lime Rock Lighthouse and Castle Hill Lighthouse. Along the tour you will also see many historic church steeples, Newport Harbor Mansions, The Newport Pell Bridge, Historic Fort Adams, the Jamestown Shoreline, and maybe even see a seal or two.

Rough Point offers a certain kind of magic — come experience Doris Duke’s Newport home during the darkest and merriest days of the year. Rooms of the museum will be spruced up for the Christmas holiday, while other rooms will be cloaked in their winter coverings. Together, these spaces tell the story of Doris’s holiday traditions and the off-season routines of one of Newport’s summer cottages.

SPARKLING LIGHTS AT THE BREAKERS: AN OUTDOOR MAGICAL WONDERLAND

For the first time, the exterior of this great house and its landscape will be awash in light, including 28 spruce trees covered in holiday lights with shifting colors along the two driveways; three large evergreen trees at the house entrance decorated with lights and ornaments; and illumination of the historic paths, hedges and shrubbery as visitors stroll the grounds.

The Children’s Cottage will be outlined in lights and visitors will be able to peek through the windows at Santa’s Workshop inside. Holiday music will fill the air there and at the Welcome Center, and refreshments such as hot chocolate and sweets will be available to purchase.

SPRING 2021 EVENTS

NEWPORT, RI – ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

The 65th Annual Newport, Rhode Island Saint Patrick’s Day Parade will be held, rain, snow, or shine, on Saturday, March 13h 2021. It will begin promptly at 11:00am from Newport City Hall and will proceed to Carroll Avenue at Saint Augustin’s Church in the heart of the Fifth Ward. The parade this year is estimated to last 2 hours and will include Pipe Bands, Marching Bands, Fife & Drum Corps, Clown Units, reenactment units, and a host of local, state, and regional organizations including police and fire units, social/fraternal organizations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Schools, and non-profits.
