The Newport Music Festival is celebrating its 50th Anniversary Season this year with 42 concerts and events. The festival includes acclaimed international artists, Grammy winners and nominees, and much more – July 4th through July 22nd, 2018.
Newport Music Festival has been presenting both world-renowned and emerging classical music artists on an annual basis since 1969. Over the years, the festival has hosted more than 2,500 concerts and 130 artists have made their American debuts. It truly is a remarkable and important, annual event.
The 50th anniversary season promises to continue the tradition and then some. Highlights of the 2018 season include performances by Grammy winning violinist Joshua Bell, piano virtuoso Charlie Albright, opera legend Frederica von Stade, and 2017 Van Cliburn Gold Medalist Yekwon Sunwoo.
Returning fans of the festival will be thrilled to hear that many favorite and renowned resident artists are on the schedule. Cellist Sergey Antonov, flautist Göran Marcusson, and violinist Irina Muresanu, for example, will all take the stage.
Popular events like the Mark P. Malkovich III Memorial Concert, French Opera Night, and Sunrise Concerts at the Chinese Tea House also return. New to this year’s festival is the inclusion of music from the 20th and 21st centuries and living composers. Newport Music Festival 2018 will also celebrate the anniversaries of Rossini, Debussy, and Bernstein.
Other changes include expanding the Festival’s resident artist program to include vocalists, such as Soprano Alexandra Batsios, Mezzo-Soprano Renée Rapier, and Baritone Trevor Neal.
Historic venues like The Breakers, The Elms, and The Marble House will again host dozens of concerts throughout the festival. Happily, Belcourt Castle will make its long-awaited return as a festival venue.
Newport Music Festival 2018 will also feature a free concert series on the Newport Art Museum lawn and a free fourth of July kick-off celebration with Boston Brass at King Park as a prelude to the fireworks.
Don’t miss it!
