Opa! The 34th annual Newport Hellenic Festival is almost here and I can already taste the lamb, tzatziki, and ouzo! Come to Newport and be Greek for a day – or even the whole weekend, at St Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Greek festival.
Newport’s Greek community works hard every year to pull this popular festival together to celebrate the area’s rich Greek culture as well as raising funds for Saint Spyridon. Hellenic Fest has been a Newport tradition since 1983, transporting attendees and presenters alike from our beautiful island to those and the mainland of Greece. Traditional Greek culture, food, and wine, music and dancing provide fun for the whole family at this beloved cultural celebration.
The Newport Hellenic Dancers have been a highlight of the festival since 2002 and will once again grace us with their skill and talent. These young dancers present dances from all over Greece and Epirus and are not to be missed. 2017 marks the group’s 15th anniversary, a milestone they will celebrate with a special retrospective presentation.
This year’s menu is, as always, composed entirely of authentic, homemade, Greek food and to die for.

Pastitsio – Baked pasta with ground beef and bechamel sauce.
Moussaka – Eggplant with ground beef and bechamel sauce.
Spanakopita – Spinach pie, feta in filo dough.
Dolmades – Rice filled Greek stuffed grape leaves.

Baklava – Chopped nuts, layered in filo with honey syrup.
Loukoumades – Fried dough topped with honey and nuts.
