Whether you’re a fan of classic cars, mid-century design, or beautifully curated art exhibits, you’ll love the Newport Car Museum.
The Newport Car Museum displays seven decades of international, modern industrial automotive design as art worth celebrating. What are the best designed cars but beautiful sculptures? The Newport Car Museum not only recognizes this but puts it up on a well lit, high pedestal for all to see.
The museum opened in 2017, based around a private collection of more than 70 classic automobiles. It now includes more than 70 cars, from the 1950s to the present, displayed in 6 different categories. Ford/Shelby Cars, Corvettes, World Cars, Fin Cars, American Muscle Cars, and Chrysler Mopars.
Cars at Newport Car Museum
The museum celebrates rare and coveted cars from America’s Big 3 (GM, Ford, and Chevy) along with beloved European classics like Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, and BMW. You’ll see a Plymouth Challenger Hellcat, a 1963 split-window Corvette, a 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible, and a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang, to name just a few.
The rarest car currently on display at the Newport Car Museum is a 1965 Ford Shelby 427 SC Cobra. Only 31 were ever sold to the public.
Exhibits in the 114,000-square-foot space allow you to get quite close to the cars. The entire museum’s design will appeal to all, not just automobile enthusiasts. It is spacious, artfully lit, and more an art gallery than a spruced-up parking garage.
Mid-century modern furnishings, contemporary art, and video projection compliment the galleries. Playseat driving simulators at the museum allow you to experience driving over 250 cars on some 60 world racetracks.
