Come to Rhode Island and experience the sport of kings with Newport Polo! The Newport International Polo Series runs every Saturday from now until the end of September.

Polo has long been called “The Sport of Kings,” yet is also well known as a good way to train cavalry. Polo is favored by aristocracy but can also be very rough and tumble. The horses reach speeds of up to 35 miles an hour and play can become intense as players vie for the ball.

The game has been around so long no one is sure where it originated but it dates back to at least the 1st century, CE. By the time of the Middle ages, polo was being played from Constantinople to Japan.

America’s first polo club, The Westchester Polo Club, was established in 1876 … right here in Newport. Newport polo is still here, annually hosting the Newport International Polo Series. The Newport Polo series brings teams from around the world to compete.

Newport International Polo Series XXVI promises to be very exciting. Action-packed matches, team debuts, and numerous special events, both on and off the field. The series kicked off on June 2nd and continues until September 29th.

If you’re going to be in Newport and enjoy or have never seen a game, do yourself a favor and check out some Newport polo!
