The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House, three of Newport’s icons of the American Gilded Age, open their doors this holiday season for the popular Newport Mansions Christmas Tours! November 19th, 2016 to January 2nd, 2017!
Christmas at the Newport Mansions is your annual chance to come and tour three National Historic Landmarks decked out in all their holiday finery. The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House all open their doors for more than a month of music, tours, and spectacular decorations.
At The Breakers, the Great Hall is dominated by an iconic, 15-foot tall poinsettia tree. Upstairs, model trains travel around three decorated trees, recalling the Vanderbilt family’s New York Central Railroad.
The Elms ballroom has been transformed into a magical, Gilded Age streetscape. You’ll see sleighs, a topiary horse, trees, and mannequins done up in vintage costumery.
The Marble House will once again host the mantelpiece decorating competition for regional garden clubs that was so popular last year. Wait until you see the results!
The houses are filled to brimming with poinsettias and other fresh flowers, evergreen trees, and lovely wreaths. A total of 28 Christmas trees are on display, decorated to fit the magnificent spaces they’re in like a hand in a glove.
Santa Claus will visit each of the houses on successive Sunday afternoons in December and all three homes will be hosting Holiday Evenings. At Holiday Evenings, you’ll enjoy live holiday music and light refreshments as you tour the softly lit rooms.
