Located on the waterfront at the foot of Newport’s Historic Hill, Bowen’s Wharf is known for its picturesque brick walkways, granite quays, and 18th-century commercial wharf buildings. The whole array of buildings housed sailmaker’s shops, sail-drying lofts, and other enterprises essential for a thriving seaport.
Today, Bowen’s Wharf offers waterfront dining, shopping, and a full-service marina. Then, as now, Bowen’s Wharf trades with all corners of the world and remains the anchor of Newport. What better location for a seafood festival?
It’s not just your run-of-the-mill seafood festival, either! The annual Bowen’s Wharf Seafood Festival offers fresh, local seafood and has been named one of the “10 Fabulous Fall Festivals on the Coast” by Coastal Living Magazine.
The theme of the festival is “Harvest of the Sea” and they’re not kidding: fresh fish tacos, lobster rolls, fried calamari, raw oysters, clam chowder, clam cakes, stuffed quahogs, shrimp, scallops … I’m getting hungry just typing this up!
You’ll also find an array of signature cocktails and cold beer, as well as fresh juices and soft drinks to wash down all that delicious seafood. Not a seafood fan? No problem! There will be lots of other options for those whose palates run more toward turf than surf. Of course, there will also be kettle corn and desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Cafe-style seating will be available all through the wharf and, to accompany your meal, live entertainment! Area bands will be on hand with folk, Celtic, Caribbean, blues, pop, and more to get you up on your feet.
