Welcome to the Summer 2013 edition of our events blog! Here you’ll find things to do ranging from old favorites to activities a bit off the beaten path. This summer looks to be a busy one and Newport’s vibrant local community is already geared up to greet all of our visitors from near and far. Whether you’re coming from just across the bridge, or across the world, we’re hoping you have an excellent time exploring all that Newport has to offer. To kick off the summer, we’ll be highlighting events from June 15th to July 15th. We hope you’re as excited as we are and we’ll see you soon!

The music fan’s ears will certainly find something to delight in this month! The Newport Yachting Center will be hosting a Sunset Music Series. Highlights in the coming weeks include Willie Nelson & Family, The B-52’s and B.B. King. See their website here for show dates, ticket prices and more! The Newport Music Festival is looking forward to kicking off it’s 45th season of bringing classical music to our historic mansions. You can find the schedule and details on a special pre-festival event here.

Looking for something a bit more casual? Greenvale Vineyards out in Portsmouth will be hosting their summer jazz series every Saturday afternoon. Be sure to stop by and enjoy some wonderful music, wine, and vistas and check out their website for more information. Also, Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown will be starting their Tuesday Evening Supper Concerts on July 9th. Enjoy a picnic and some bluegrass in at a charming local farm. A complete list of artists is available here at their website. More of Newport’s music events including the infamous folk festival will be occurring later in July and August so be sure to keep your eyes and ears open!

Looking to get active? Father’s day weekend has two events sure get your heart pumping! On Saturday June 15th, the Norman Bird Sanctuary is hosting their 7th annual 5k, voted best 5k by RI Monthly. Click here to register and support this local natural treasure. Bike Newport is sponsoring the inaugural Father’s Day ride in memory of Elliot Kaminitz devoted father and bike enthusiast who passed away after a bike accident last summer. Proceeds will benefit Bike Newport which is putting tremendous effort into making your favorite destination for cyclists and motorists alike! Information on all their great events can be found here.

The premier event of the early summer is surely the Newport Flower Show running June 21st -23rd . Come enjoy this year’s theme of Jade: Eastern Obsessions at Rosecliff. Tickets are available online for only $18 per person. Be sure not to miss the opening night cocktail party and enjoy this beautiful mansion as it was meant to be enjoyed. Tickets are available now for $170. Check out their website to learn more.

The season of fireworks and cook outs is upon us and believe it or not, July 4th is just around the corner! Why not celebrate the fourth at the oldest Independence Day parade in the country, in Bristol, RI, just up the road from sunny Newport. This year will be the 228th, so be sure to join the many who will be lining the streets this year! Click here to learn more about this historic event. We’ll see you there!

Whether you come to visit us for the concerts or the cocktails, we look forward to hosting you in Newport sometime soon! Until next time, keep your eye on the Discover Newport’s event calendar at  for information on these and even more events. See you ‘round the harbor!
